"about research activities rate of structural units, 2006’"
For the purpose of creating and functioning of a transparent system of management of university structural units and in order to guarantee high quality in all activities a rating system of estimation of activities results has been implemented at the university
University structural units rate according to research activities results was worked out by the scientific-research office (SRO) under supervision of the vice-rector on research work on the grounds of resulting figures for 2006, which were sent in to the SRO by structural units.
Taking into account all said above and on the occasion of the Day of science-2007

RATE OF V.DAHL NATIONAL UNIVERSITY CHAIRS
The university carries out active research work taking the 9th place for scientific workers potential among classical universities of Ukraine. Meanwhile it takes the first place for the number of patents on inventions and scientific publications, the second place-for the number of research works financed by state budget.
The leading role in the development of research activities play outstanding scientific schools. Leaders of the scientific schools are scientists of the university, which are well-known not only in Ukraine but also well out of it. They are first of all the corresponding member of the Ukrainian Academy of Pedagogical Sciences (APS) Holubenko O.L., corresponding member of the APS Shevchenko H.P., professors Arlins’kyi Y.M., Belkin D.I., Budikov L.Y., Buz’ko I.R., Hedrovych A.I., Holubnychyi P.I., Honcharov V.M., Hribanov V.M., Dzyuba V.L., Doroshko V.I., Yeroshyn S.S., Zhytna I.P., Zarubyz’kyi Y.U. Zvonov V.O., Kulykov Y.A., Krainyuk O.I., Lazor L.I., Lokotosh B.M., Nahornyi B.H., Ramazanov S.K., Rei R.I., Rumyanzev B.P., Ryabicheva L.O., Smyrnyi M.F., Sumzov V.H., Suhanzeva V.K., Tyupalo M.F., Freher H.Y., Ul’shyn V. O., Shyshov V.P., Shchedrova H.P., Kharlamov Y.O., Yakovenko V.V. and others. One of such schools is the school which deals with problems of locomotive engineering world-wide known from the times of the USSR. This school carries out research aimed at improvement technical and economic indices of modern and future railway transport. This is especially important for Luhans’k, which is one of the world centers of locomotive engineering. Due to the activity of this school several licenses on inventions have been sold to German railways, besides it takes part in joint scientific international and state projects in the sphere of railway transport.
Fundamental research work in the sphere of physics of high energy density is being consistently conducted. The work is connected with detection of space particles of high energy. There has been worked out a fundamentally new method of registration these particles based on radio emission of broad air shower, which appears as a result of infusion of thick energy into condensed medium.
Important results have been achieved in the laboratory ‘Khimeks’, which works out new methods of receiving compounds with high bioactivity. A number of received compounds have already showed high herbicidal and antitumoral effect.
Attention is also paid to the problems of history and archeology and to research work on the territory of the Sivers’kyi Donez’ river in particular. As a result, there has been carried out a consistent shear of cultural stratum from the period of ancient inhabitants of the Eastern Ukraine to the times of kozaks of Zaporizhs’ka Sich. This archeological dig is presented with about 15000 findings.
A considerable amount of research works has been conducted in the important direction ‘Economics of transitional period’. There have been worked out theoretical aspects of market stability of industrial and financial systems under conditions of transitional period.
A promising field of science connected with growing monocrystals of ternary solid solution ‘indium-gallium-stibium’ has been intensively developing at the university.
New prospects in the sphere of power supply and elaboration of new generation devices such as infra-red rays laser and multifunctional integral devices are coming to light.
The elaboration of science intensive inventions for Ukrainian satellites of the type ‘Sich’ is provided with direct assistance of the number of university chairs.
The university as before is in front line in the sphere of invention. Nowadays it has 177 foreign patents, 250 patents of Ukraine, 2196 author’s certificates of the USSR. The university scientists have received a number of international prizes and medals of prominent scientists of different countries.
The results of research activities of the university scientists are widely covered in the specialized editions of Ukraine and foreign countries as well. Every year the university scientists publish more than 2000 research works in different editions including the main scientific edition of the university. The university constantly acts as an organizer of more than twenty annual international and all-Ukraine scientific conferences. Every year about five theses for a Doctor’s degree and twenty Ph. D theses are defended also at the specialized academic councils dealing with thesis defend, which work at the university on eight specialties.
More than 3000 students take part in different forms of research activities. Every year dozens of students become winners of international and all-Ukraine Olympiads. The most talented students are awarded with prestigious prizes of different standards for their research works.
One of the forms of students’ research activities is the work of students’ research laboratories, the laboratory ‘Interstudent” being the most vivid example. Numerous software for university service of graduates’ job placement, managing the work of dean’s offices, automated curriculum workings out, information protection of computer systems etc. have been elaborated and put into practice at the laboratory. A group of designers which is engaged in elaboration of advertising output and creation of the university esthetical image efficiently works at the laboratory. Scientific achievements of the university have played an important role in organization of the coordinating council of the regional department of the Ukrainian National academy of sciences, which happened first during the longstanding history of Luhans’k region. Seven departments of promising fields of science formed part of the council. All these create the necessary prerequisites for the development of fundamental science and for the solution of burning problems of the nowadays economic development of the country as well and guarantee that the science will continue to be an important constituent of the intellectual life of the university, city and the whole region.
