Volodymyr Dahl East Ukrainian National University
is the first technical higher educational institution of Luhansk

The establishment of the educational institution has deep historical basis connected with industrial development of the region. Historical research shows that the beginnings of technical education in Luhansk appeared in 19th century.

Preconditions of the establishment...

The scientific and technical society started its activities at the Lugansk foundry in 1827. The same year the training of the youth in technical disciplines was strated as well. Luhansk factory school was founded in 1839. Educational and scientific foundation for the future technical school was made by the distinguished leading figures of science such as I.A. Timeh ("Cutting resistance of metal and wood"), A.F. Mevius ("Training course of metallurgy of cast iron, iron and steel", "Iron foundries"), I.F. Felkner ("Machines and tools for metalworking", "Companion of an engineer-builder", "Popular Companion of an engineer-builder"), Y.P. Kovalevskiy ("Geognostic Review of the Donetsk Ridge" (1829)) and others.

History

The educational establishment began its readout in March 27, 1920, when Lugansk National Technical School headed by the rector Migulin P.K. was created. The technical school was located in a former trade school.

Later the technical school was called "Luhansk Evening Work College" (LEWC). It had been preparing "red" engineers at two faculties (mechanical and electrotechnical) during 4 years.

Lessons were held in the the former Pushkin College building in Patronna Street and later in the former four-storey building of Vasnev in Bankovska Street (Shevchenko Street nowadays). Technical school occupied the fourth floor. In 1927 LEWC got the second and the third floors of the permanent building in Lenina Street, 38.

1927, the first graduation of engineers (11 persons) in speciality "Steam-powered equipment".

1930, according to the resolution of the Council of People's Commissars of USSR the technical school was reorganized into Luhansk Evening Machine Building Institute. The first graduation of LEMBI engineers in speciality "Civil engineering" was in 1932.

1934-1939, the work of the educational institution was suspended, it was renewed in 1939.

During the war the higher educational institution was evacuated to the Russian city Omsk and reorganized into Omsk Machine Building Institute.

1945-1959, educational establishment functioned in the composition of the branch offices of: Kharkiv Institute of Mechanical Engineering, Moscow Correspondence Institute of Metal Industry (Moscow State University of Instrument Engineering and Computer Science nowadays) and V.I. Lenin Kharkov Polytechnical Institute.

1960, educational establishment was reorganized into independent Luhansk Evening Machine Building Institute with 940 persons of full-time studies students.

1962, training of students of full-time form of study was started.

On the 8th of May in 1993 East Ukrainian State University was created on the basis of Luhansk Machine Building Institute and several higher educational institutions of Luhansk and Luhansk region.

1996, the higher educational institution received the status of the higher educational institution of the IV accreditation level.

On the 11th of September the university was given the status of the national university with the proper name "East Ukrainian National University".

In 2001 East Ukrainian National University was given the name of Volodymyr Dahl.

In September of 2004 the rector of Volodymyr Dahl East Ukrainian National University, professor Golubenko O.L. sighed in Bologna (Italy) the Great Charter of Universities.

In 2004 the construction of the new academic building was finished.

March, 2010, the solemn opening of Volodymyr Ivanovych Dahl's monument near the main academic building with the participation of the president of Ukraine Victor Yanukovych.

On March 24th, 2010, Volodymyr Dahl East Ukrainian National University was given the status of the national self-governing (autonomous) research higher educational establishment.

is the first technical higher educational institution of Luhansk

He was an industrial engineer by speciality and worked part-time as the head of the boiler house of Gartman plant. He taught technical mechanics at technical school (three hours per week for students of the 1st and the 2nd courses).

Mygulin P.K.

The head of Luhansk People's Technical School, Luhansk Evening Working Technical School during the period of 27.03.1920-26.10.1922

 

He received a prestigious education. At first he studied at Kharkiv Technological Institute, but finished his education in France at Nancy Electromechanical and Lille Electrotechnical Institutes. Obtained the diplomas of an engineer-mechanic and an engineer-electrician. Worked at the laboratories of Lille Electrotechnical Institute and as an engineer of electrification of the Fives-Lille plant in France.

Trekov ╬.╠.

The head of Luhansk Evening Working Technical School since 26.10. till November of 1922. Since November, 1922 till 1923 he was the rector of LEWTS.


 

The graduate of the Institute of Communication Lines Engineers. Had a traineeship abroad in order to get the professor's degree, in particular, studied mathematical and engineering sciences in Paris at "Ecole des Points et Đhaussees" and in Sorbonne library mastered general education sciences.

The director of LEWTS in 1925-1926.

He was the graduate of Leningrad Technical Institute. By the time he was elected to run the technical school he had already had 24 years of pedagogical experience and 17 years of working experience. He taught such disciplines at the technical school as: resistance of materials, details and mechanisms.

Tokarev V.I.

The manager of Krasin Luhansk Evening Work Technical School in 1926-1929.


He was the graduate of Leningrad Technical Institute, engineer-technologist by speciality, had the working experience of 10 years and pedagogical experience of 3 years. He taught such disciplines at the professional course as:  cold working, mechanical technology, machine tools and mechanical workshop structure.

 

Krayushkin B.V.

The manager of Krasin Luhansk Evening Work Technical School in 1929-1930


He took the post of the director of LEWTS at the age of 25. He did not have higher education. He was the member of All-soviet Union Communist Party of Bolsheviks since 1923.

He wan engineer, the promoted worker of Locomotive Works. In 1933 he was called back on production.

He was the graduate of the institute, engineer-specialist of the rolling production. Since 1926 he was the member of the party. In the year of his assignment on the post of the director of the institute he was sent on the post of the director of Lutugino forming rolls plant.

He was the State Prize laureate, the author of the book about forming rolls.

He was the graduate of the second Luhansk Evening Working Technical School's graduation of engineers in 1928. Working in the beginning at production in the early 1930-ies together with the group of engineers of Luhansk machine tool plant he made a trip to the USA in order to borrow the experience in production of machine tools for the grinding of the rings for bearings (automotive industry). The trip was successful, and in 1933 he was appointed on the post of the director of LEWMBI.

He was the first rector of Luhansk Machine Building Institute, Honored Worker of Ukrainian Education, distinguished professor of Volodymyr Dahl East Ukrainian National University, academician, Vice President of Lifting and Transporting Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, in due time he was the head of Luhansk department of Lifting and Transporting Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. He is the Luhansk honorary citizen.

In 1960-1962 he was the director of Luhansk Evening Machine Building Institute.

In 1963-1970 he was the rector of Luhansk Evening Machine Building Institute.

In 1970-1974 he was the rector of Voroshylovgrad Machine Building Institute.


He was the Honored Worker of Higher School of Ukraine, Academician of Engineering Academy of Ukraine and the corresponding member of the International Engineering Academy, Academician of Transport Academies of Ukraine and Russia.

 

Koniayev ╬.╠.

In 1974-1990 he was the rector of Voloshylovgrad Machine Building Institute.

In 1990-1993 he was the rector of Luhansk Machine Building Institute.

In 1993-1997 he was the president of East Ukrainian State University.


He is the Academician of the Transport Academy of Ukraine, Russian Academy of Transport, Engineering Academy of Ukraine, International Engineering Academy, Member of the Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine, Member of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine, Honorary Railwayman of the Russian Federation (1992) and Ukraine (1995).

He has honorary titles of the Honored Worker of Science and Technology of Ukraine (1990), Honorary Railwayman of Ukraine (1997) and Honorary Railwayman of Russia (1992). The hometown paid tribute to Oleksandr Leonidovych having given him the title of honorary citizen of Luhansk(2000).

He was awarded the Medal of the USSR, Orders of Ukraine "For merits" of the III, II and I degrees, Order of Poland (2005), Honorary Diploma of the Cabinet of Ministers (2002). Golubenko O.L. is the Laureate of Ukrainian Ministry of Higher Education (1988) and State Prize of Ukraine in Science and Technology (2004).

In 1997-2000 he was the rector of East Ukrainian State University.

In 2000-2001 he was the rector of East Ukrainian National University.
